Jockeying for a spot on Google Page One (GPO) for the most competitive term of your targeted niche market boils down to a good understanding and strategic use of certain keyword parameters which include among others: the anchor text of incoming links to your blog and the frequency with which those keywords occur in the posts of your blog, to mention but a few. Unfortunately Strategic Keyword Appliance (SKA) is not an exact science and truth be told leans more towards the realm of tricky art than established science!

If you are a new to the world of keyword research you will probably be rather impressed by keyword terms that boast millions of listings on Google's index. So without further ado let us not confine ourselves to the abstract and hypothetical here but rather let's get down and dirty with specific keyword examples.

Okay let's consider the keyword: make money blogging.

If you type in the keyword term make money blogging in the Google search box you are will get in excess of 100,000,000 listings.

Wow, huh!

That's right! Over 100 million websites (obviously including blogs) are indexed in Google's database under the keyword term, make money blogging. Before I continue however there is a point I need to clarify.

The almighty deity of search otherwise known as Google has more than 700,000 servers variously dotted around the globe which hold the search giant's data. What is important to note here with respect to that vast number of servers is that anytime someone types in a search query on Google that query of theirs is going to be shunted to any one of those thousands of servers. In other words the exact same query (keyword) typed into the Google search engine from two different IP addresses will return slightly different results, both in the number of listings as well as the positional arrangement of the various sites listed on the Google index.

In fact if you were to type in the same keyword query from the very same computer but through two separate Google search boxes from different browser windows (i.e., the IP address is one and the same) you will probably get slightly varied return listings displayed within the different browsers. This happens because those very identical keyword queries you just typed into the two different Google search boxes are redirected to different Google servers located round the globe.

The different Google servers house slightly different databases which would explain the variation in return listings. This process of retrieval from multiple databases (servers) makes a lot of sense otherwise if data were being retrieved from a single huge server can you imagine just how long it would take to get an answer to any single query? Forever! That's how long it would take! The online traffic jam from queued queries would literally stretch from one end of the universe to the other!

Good! Now that's out of the way let's return to the example on hand.

When I type in the keyword term make money blogging in Google's search box I get a result of 104 million listings for one IP address while I get 105 million for another IP address. If you were to type in make money blogging from your own computer (and thereby yet another different IP address) you would in all likelihood get different results which could be either slightly higher or lower than any of the two mentioned above.

Oh there's one more aspect about listings on Google and that is they are dynamic not static. What I mean by that is that they change over time as sites come and go from the index; the manner and method with which Google determines that number is known solely to them but it does explain why the listings fluctuate from month to month.

Mega Google Listings Don't Equate Into Mega Daily Searches!

It would seem quite logical and rational to presume that a keyword like make money blogging that has such a large number of listings on Google would naturally command plenty of searches each and every day. Well as things stand such a presumption would be entirely wrong! Fact is, the keyword phrase make money blogging has shockingly few people looking it up on a daily basis; about four to five searches to be precise. What is even more shocking is that this particular keyword has a very high difficulty level of approximately 76% on a scale where 100% indicates the highest difficulty level possible for any keyword.

Making matters worse is the fact that there are several sites listed on that Google Page One (GPO) for the keyword term make money blogging, all of which are striving for those pathetically few searchers numbering a mere four to five people or so per day. Which begs the question, why would anyone in their right mind purposefully target and optimize their blog for such a keyword?

The Search For A Solution Is The 1st Step In Persuasive Selling!

Read that subheader very carefully and let its ramifications sink in. Search For A Solution Is The 1st Step In The Persuasion Process! Powerful stuff huh? That single sentence explains why everybody who owns a blog or website strives so very hard to get their blog listed on Google Page One (GPO) for their most targeted and desired keyword term. Any accomplished sales person will quickly tell you that there are five essential conditions necessary to smoothly manipulate a transaction in whichever direction you wish it to proceed and that the very first condition required to ensure your desired outcome is The Search For A Solution!

A person who is searching for a solution is a great candidate to be manipulated because by looking for that solution they have already lowered their defenses to a certain degree! These are the kind of people that every marketer dreams of because they also happen to be the most qualified kind of prospect. The first step of persuasive selling entails identifying qualified prospects. A qualified prospect is someone who will actually make you money as opposed to a prospect who merely wastes your time as you try to persuade them to do that which you desire! This article however is not about persuasive selling so I shall not pursue this particular thread any longer but suffice it to say that by narrowing your targeted prospects down to those that are highly qualified you will be vastly increasing your chances to make money online!

With this concept of the 1st condition of persuasive selling freshly impinged in our minds let's retrace our steps a little back to that perplexing quandary surrounding the keyword term of make money blogging and why bother search engine optimizing your blog for it?

Does It Make Sense To Optimize For The Keyword Make Money Blogging When It Only Has 4 To 5 Searches Per Day?

At the time of this writing the term make money blogging only averaged 5 searches per day but it is probable by the time you read this article the number of daily searches for the term may have increased. So the big question is why bother to optimize your blog for such a keyword if it only has five searches per day?

Remember what we just said about recognizing and identifying qualified prospects and while we are at it let's not forget about that all important aspect of how the Search For A Solution Is The 1st Step In Persuasive Selling? Well therein lies the reason why anyone would go out of their way to target the little searched term of make money blogging.

A person who types in the query make money blogging is a person with a very specific and focused search. They wish to learn about how to make money online by blogging! And if you happen to be in the business of teaching people how to make money blogging for a fee then it makes very good and logical sense for you to include this poorly searched for term in your arsenal of keywords that you are optimizing your blog for.

How To Determine The True Value Of A Keyword

The best way to determine the true worth of a keyword is to determine how much online marketers are prepared to pay for a sponsored listing targeting a specific keyword on Google Page One (GPO). Sponsored listings are those listings found at the right hand margin of the Google Index Pages under the title "Sponsored Links." Sponsored Links on Google are commonly known in the business as Google Adwords.

People who have sponsored listings (Adwords adverts) are advertisers who pay Google each and every time someone clicks on their advert or sponsored link. The amount the advertiser with the topmost sponsored listing pays for each click is a fairly accurate reflection of how valuable the industry believes that particular keyword to be worth!

Thus for example the keyword term make money online when evaluated by this method is worth about $3.00 per click while the term make money blogging is worth about $4.35 per click. Advertisers are quite willing to shell out that kind of money because they know that they can leverage it into considerably more money. Say for example you run a how to make money blogging tutorial class that costs each member $27/month then it makes sense aplenty to shell out $4.00 plus to get an ultra-qualified lead who is willing to pay you $27 per month for your wisdom!

Of the two examples listed above having a Google Page One (GPO) listing for make money online from an internet marketing perspective is more valuable than a GPO for make money blogging for the simple fact that there are several hundred searches everyday for make money online compared the paltry few for make money blogging! Put another way, you will get many more qualified leads that translate into money in your pocket if you have a Google Page One listing for the keyword term make money online!

To summarize, the application of keyword science is an art form which when mastered and strategically applied will ensure that you start making a profit from your internet business far quicker than you otherwise would if you employed a haphazard based-on-luck system. Luckily these days there are a good number of excellent keyword analysis tools that completely eliminate the guesswork from Strategic Keyword Application (SKA). And best news of all is that a lot of those keyword tools come at very reaso nable prices!
